Even ISPs sometimes offer nationwide hotspots as an inclusive or optional part of your internet package. Creating a hotspot on your computer is actually quite easy but with an ordinary hotspot your protection consists only of the WEP or WPA WiFi key, you have to tell everyone the key to give them access.
If you want to refuse someone access, the wireless key needs to be changed and a new one resent to those other users who still are allowed to connect. Have you ever wondered how to create a login page on your hotspot like businesses and commercial services do?
There are various methods to create wireless hotspots that incorporate a login page also known as a captive portal but many of them are complicated to set up. Some require you to use Linux, others need extra access points connected via a second LAN adapter. You can also use specialized routers for this task or use a router that has a customized firmware but not everyone can use this method.
There used to be a Windows application called 2Hotspot which made it very easy to create a login page for your hotspot, sadly that project died many years ago. It does require 2 pieces of free software installed on your computer but needs no special networking knowledge to setup.
This first step is needed to turn your computer into a wireless hotspot that the other computers on the network will connect to.
Other hotspot creation software may work but we found this program the easiest to setup and use. Download WiFi Creator and then install it. Launch WiFi Creator and making sure Automatic configuration is selected, either leave the settings at default for now or give the hotspot a new name and a new 8 character or more password. Then select the network adapter that connects to the internet from the dropdown, this can be either a wireless or wired adapter.
A new virtual network adapter will be created using the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter and and the adapter that connects to the internet will now be set up to share the internet with the new connection. Setting up an additional login page requires the software to sit in between the adapter that acts as the access point and the adapter that accesses the internet to intercept web traffic and redirect to the login page before allowing access.
There are very few free Windows applications that can do this without the need of external access points or extra hardware, here are the quick setup guides for three applications that can do the job, each has its own plus and minus points. An administrator can use this splash page to display an acceptable use policy or network announcements. The click-through splash page is hosted by the Meraki cloud.
As such, the network must have connectivity to the Meraki cloud in order to display the splash page.
How to Force a Public Wi-Fi Network Login Page to Open
If the Meraki cloud is unreachable for some reason, the administrator can configure whether new wireless users should be admitted to the wireless network without seeing the splash page. While the click-through splash page requires no client-side configuration, it should only be enabled on an SSID whose clients are all capable of displaying the splash page. When there are clients that are not browser-capable e. An administrator can configure whether new wireless clients are able to obtain network access when the click-through splash page cannot be displayed e.

The sign-on splash page can be configured to allow or disallow multiple simultaneous logins for a single set of user credentials. Perhaps there are too many wireless networks saved in the list, I've seen this cause problems before, remove all the ones you don't need to save a password to.

Any chance you set a static DNS server under NIC properties, this can cause this problem, it should be left to "obtain automatically". I reset the NIC. I tried Chrome and got to the login page without an issue.

Hi guys we just rolled out open wifi through out our corporate campus and we are getting back a lot of negative feedback from apple users, the page only shows up the first time and then we have to show them how to clear cache in order for it to work again, we can't have that as we have over 4k employees and having everyone reset their cache is not a solution that our management is willing to accept, if there's a permanent work around please let me know.

As a remote team that often works from coworking spaces and coffee shops, we've wasted far more time than we'd like to admit trying to get online. There's no magic button to connect to coffee shop, hotel, and airport Wi-Fi, but these tricks get us connected most of the time. The typical problem with public Wi-Fi is the login screen not showing up. That's only a problem only with open, public, unsecured Wi-Fi networks. If you connect to an open network at your friend's house, say, typically you won't need a password and can just start browsing the internet directly.
With a coffee shop or airport Wi-Fi, though, often you need to create an account or enter a code from a receipt before browsing the full internet. You have to do that on a custom login screen, and that's what often just won't load.

On a public Wi-Fi network, by default anything you enter on an unsecured, non-HTTPS site could be viewed by anyone else on the network.
